---------Rennylea Spring 08 Bull Sale Report------------

Rennylea Angus held its annual spring sale at Ellerslie Park Culcairn at the end of August. The Rennylea catalogue featured an impressive line up of 113 bulls that clearly reflect the goals of the breeding programme.

In his introduction to the sale Rennylea Principal, Bryan Corrigan said, “These bulls are indicative of what our breeding programme is about, highly predictable carcase genetics, focusing on meat quality. The bulls have second to none background in the low cost traits, most particularly cow fertility.”

He continued, “They are cattle designed for the times, low cost of production, with flexibility for both the grass and grainfed markets.”

The sale had a complete clearance with an average of $5,196 for the 113 offered. The commercial clientelle gave clear signals for high B3 index and carcase values, calving ease, and low birthweight in their competition.

Topping the sale at $11,000 was lot 13, Rennylea B679, a son of Hyline Right Time out of the proven donor Renylea W369, a Future Direction daughter. The bull met his description of being “very thick, easy doing with great structure”. His B3 index is +107, with a birth to 600 day spread of +4.4 to +109. He was purchased by Gerry and Julie Sheahan from Moyhu who also purchased lot 54, for $7,500.

There were a number of volume buyers at the sale. Markarna Grazing Co. from Flinders Island purchased 7 bulls to $10,750 for lot 36. Sired by Te Mania Unlimited, this 18 month bull, Rennylea C170 has an elite IMF of +3.0%, a B3 index of +119 and the semen rights to his full brother has recently been sold to Argentina. Markarna also purchased lots 2,4,6,20, 71 and 98 for a total investment of $60,000. Repeat buyers Romani Pastoral Company, with properties at Harden and Quirindi purchased eight bulls and TA Field Estate purchased four bulls.

The sale grossed $587,250 with bulls going to all eastern states. The Corrigan family were delighted with the strong support, especially given the continuing demanding seasonal conditions. The auctioneers were Andrew Wishart and Mark Barton from Landmark Cootamundra and Wagga Wagga.
